The design of a modern Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) is the focal point of the Exterior Building (EBM) System for this tower. A 97' telescoping boom positions a suspended work platform on any point of the buildings facade to provide access for window cleaning and building maintenance. The BMU runs along a structural steel track system that is centrally locations along the building longitudinal axis. The luffing and slewing and elevating mast functions allow the BMU to be stored out of the line of sight.
Designed by renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki, their distinctive triangular shape, gleaming in their signature façade of aluminum, forms a commanding presence. And yet, as distinguished as the Towers have become, the renowned architectural firm Keating Khang Architecture was retained to create an alluring and dynamic new image for the landmark Century Plaza Towers – a distinguished classic in the city’s skyline.
